Director of Development Orange County Land Trust, Sugar Loaf, NY, Full time
The Orange County Land Trust, based in Sugar Loaf, New York, is seeking an experienced, energetic, creative, staff leader to direct all aspects of the Land Trust’s fundraising operations. The candidate will be required to effectively represent the organization to potential and current donors, foundations, corporations, and the public at-large. This position requires an individual with strong fundraising experience who is a collaborative problem solver, an energetic and effective communicator, and a good fit with the Land Trust’s staff and organizational culture. The candidate must have the ability to successfully promote the Orange County Land Trust and its programs to a diverse audience of supporters and potential donors. The Director of Development serves as the overall strategist for the Development program. He/she represents and promotes the Land Trust’s mission & brand by providing excellent donor stewardship, and interacting with members, volunteers and supporters. The individual in this position will develop and execute a strategy for building the organization’s endowment. The position reports to the organizations Executive Director.
Direct all aspects of the Land Trust’s annual fundraising program.
Work with the Executive Director, President, Development Committee and key board members to create and implement the fundraising program.
Identify, research, cultivate and solicit individual, corporate, government, and foundation donors through personal visits and written grant proposals.
Coordinate and strengthen relationships with existing donors.
Play an important role in the Land Trust’s marketing efforts.
Initiate, plan and manage all fundraising and cultivation events.
Founded in 1993, the Orange County Land Trust is a growing land conservation organization with a responsibility for managing close to 5,000 acres throughout Orange County. The Orange County Land Trust is a county wide 501c3 not-for-profit. We partner with public and private organizations, agencies, and individuals in communities throughout the County who are working to ensure the conservation of important natural and agricultural resources
THE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
We are seeking a Director of Development willing to work as a member of a “team” and with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in non-profit fundraising and management with a record of success in soliciting and securing major gifts, managing a large database, and achieving fundraising goals. The Director of Development is responsible for fundraising through direct mail, e-mail, and personal contact. An undergraduate degree required. Strong supervisory skills necessary along with an ability to work independently, superior computer skills including Microsoft Office and strong database experience; Donor Perfect and Constant Contact experience strongly preferred; ability to manage multiple projects and work independently in a fast-paced environment; meet deadlines and solve problems is critical. Some weekend & evening work.
