Orange County Land Trust Mission:
To preserve the fields, forests, wetlands, ridgelines and river corridors in and around Orange County through voluntary land conservation.
Summary of Position:
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer and works under the direction of the President and in consultation with the Board of Directors and board committees. Responsibilities include managing operations, acquisitions and stewardship, fund raising, marketing, educating landowners and the general public, budgeting, staffing and reporting.
Duties:
- Oversee program of voluntary land preservation and land acquisition (conservation easements, stewardship and monitoring) in accordance with Orange County Land Trusts Strategic Plan and Land Conservation Plan.
- Obtain financial support, grants, contracts and other assistance from individuals, foundations, corporations and public agencies, including building and maintaining personal relationships with grantors and donors.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships and public awareness and organize meetings and conferences in order to enhance the stature of the Orange County Land Trust.
- Direct and conduct organizational management functions, including the timely preparation and management of budgets, reports, financial investments, policies and plans.
- Supervise, motivate and develop staff and volunteers.
- Provide support to the Board of Directors, its officers and committees.
- Ensure adherence to Land Trust Alliances Standards and Practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree, preferably in natural resources management, business administration or a related field and/or experience in resource management, business, non-profit management, fundraising, real estate, marketing or a related field.
- Experience with fundraising and management of a non-profit organization.
- Experience in writing grant applications and managing grants.
- Excellent communication skills including writing skills, public speaking and ability to represent the Land Trust in public forums.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with a wide variety of people, including landowners, government officials, the press, scientists, donors, the general public and a diverse Board of Directors.
- Ability to manage, motivate, develop and direct staff and volunteers.
- Strong commitment to the protection of the unique ecological, scenic and diminishing natural resources of Orange County combined with sound business sense and good judgment.
- Proficiency with computer applications and office systems.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office as well as in the field. Travel is required to meetings, speaking engagements, workshops, professional associations, and other events requiring Land Trust representation.
Minimum Salary:
$55,000 plus benefits
