Orange County Land Trust Thanks Supporters for Most Successful Annual Appeal
Middletown, NY —
February 14, 2008
The Orange County Land Trust has just concluded its 2007 Annual Appeal to the Community and is pleased to report that this year's campaign has been its most successful since its founding in 1993.
According to Executive Director James Delaune, the Land Trust raised nearly 75% more funds this year from individual donors than last year. "It is very gratifying to know that the work we do to protect and preserve our local landscapes, wetlands and working farms remains a major concern of the communities we serve," he said. "At this time, I'd like to thank each and every one of our supporters for their generosity."
Delaune added that the Land Trust receives most of its operating support in the form of individual donations.
The Orange County Land Trust is a non profit organization founded by former county executive Louis Mills. It is the only county-wide land trust and to date has protected over 3,000 acres of land and working farms in the county. Working with landowners, the Land Trust's area of expertise is preserving land through the placement and monitoring of conservation easements, working with individual property owners and municipalities to secure funding for the purchase of development rights (PDR's), accepting donations of land, and purchasing land for open space. The Land Trust operates eight preserves in the county which are open to the public, free of charge, for hiking birding and other forms of passive recreation. The Land Trust also partners with Orange County in helping implement the county's open space plan.
